The Importance of Charting for Teens & My Largest Class Experience to Date!

Talk about a high!

I am still so exhilarated from speaking this month to a whole school district!

me speaking to the second half of students at Bangor High School

On Wednesday, I had the privilege to speak to all the young girls in the whole Bangor School District from grades six through twelve! The teen class sessions were broken down into two smaller sections each, one for middle school and one for high school. The teen program I have developed is a short 40 minute presentation on the basics of charting for teens, and it has been a goal of mine this year to bring that to a large crowd. I met with the local health class teacher at Bangor in the spring and she was thrilled to have this program come to her students. She explained to me that many of the kids are in her classes are only getting basic information. Having me there to speak to them in depth about hormones and the link to their overall health was definitely something she wanted to see.

Telling these young girls what I wish I had known about periods, hormones and fertility when I was there age is so gratifying. I can see their faces as they are learning and the students asked me such good, thoughtful questions. I know they were engaged with the topic. Charting is not only for adults. Charting is a valuable tool for monitoring your health at home especially for young women who are entering their fertility. It's my sincere hope that they are able to take this information with them as they age, and are better equipped to advocate for themselves in the physicians office than I was at their age.
